Derwen Group
In 2007, Mark Davies, Managing Director of Derwen Plant Ltd designed and commissioned a state of the art aggregate washing plant and recycling facility – adopting an early and innovative approach well before legislative demands were placed on companies to use recycled aggregates. The bespoke, purpose built plant is the first one of its kind in Wales.
The process recycles inert waste that would otherwise be disposed of at landfill. Legislation changes highlighted the importance of finding a solution and after extensive market research the aggregate washing plant was developed and commissioned.
Environmental considerations played the biggest part in this new venture into which £2.8M private finance was invested. The majority of the inert feedstock originates from Construction & Demolition waste, greenfield excavations and rock over burden; these materials are either brought to us by our customers or collected from sites by our lorries and skips. We provide an alternative route for disposal, which contributes towards minimizing waste to landfill, and meeting ever increasing landfill diversion target.
